Huge Rock Splitter for Excavator

Ultra-large rock splitters are mounted on a regular excavator and used for the excavation of large volumes of hard to very hard rock.
Explosives or large rock breakers are the normal methods for excavation of hard rock. But restrictions on blasting are getting stricter and the use of rock breakers is not always feasible due to vibrations, noise restrictions, or simply hard rock. Yamamoto ultra-large rock splitters offer an alternative method for efficient excavation of large volumes of hard rock without the need for explosives, vibrations, or fly rock. The splitter can be mounted from a crane or a normal excavator for open pits or shafts, or mounted on a specialized carrier for horizontal tunneling.

How the Huge Rock Splitter for Excavator works:

Conventional demolition techniques destroy rock and concrete by using an external force. However, because of their compressive strength, these materials are highly resistant to impact forces. For optimum results, one should adopt a splitting technique that works from the inside of the material, because rock and concrete have a lower tensile strength. The DARDA hydraulic splitters were developed to do just this and work according to a safe and proven wedge principle.

First of all, a hole is drilled to a specified diameter and depth using an ordinary rock drill. Then the wedge set is inserted into the hole with the wedge in a retracted position. The hydraulic pressure then forces the wedge between the two counter wedges, pressing them against the walls of the drilled hole. The effective splitting force of up to 413 tons or 4048 kN breaks concrete and rock from the inside, breaking thinner iron rods at the same time.
